Associates Home Loan is passionate about supporting families and giving back to the community—and to demonstrate that passion, we’ve established an adoption grant.

Our adoption grant will award $1,000 to a person or family looking to adopt a child. The adoption process can be challenging, time-consuming, and expensive, so with this grant, we hope to alleviate some of that stress. Our mission is to help deserving families—just like yours—welcome a beautiful child into their homes.

How the Grant Works

Each year, two people or families will receive the grant. Applicants must submit all materials by December 30th to be eligible for the first selection cycle, or submit application materials by June 15th to qualify for the second selection cycle.

To apply, interested parties must fill out the application through our Google form and submit their approved home study. The form requires contact information for the prospective grantee and their adoption agency, and an attached home study. The applicant also must write an essay describing the need for the grant.

The essay prompt is:

“Please provide a brief explanation as to why you need this grant and what it means to you and your family.”

Applicants may want to consider preparing their answers in a separate location ahead of time. You can copy and paste your final response into the form.

Once a recipient has received notification of their selection and approval for the grant, they will have two weeks to confirm their acceptance. They will need to verify their preferred adoption agency and what stage they are at in the adoption process.

Once everything is in order, the grant money will deposit directly to the adoption agency to help cover fees via a mail check.

Grant Requirements

Applicants must undergo a fully-approved home study before they are eligible to apply for this adoption grant.

Candidates must be working with a US adoption agency and the grant money is only payable in USD. For security, we will only submit the funds directly to the agency.

The chosen grantees must respond within two weeks. Otherwise, another applicant may qualify to receive the grant instead.

Every person or family regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, age, ethnicity, religion, or marital status is eligible to apply and will receive equal consideration for our adoption grant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I consider adoption?

Adoption is a wonderful choice for people who want to share their life with children. While everyone’s situation is different, there are several common reasons that people choose to adopt.

Many people adopt because they cannot have biological children of their own, and treatments like IVF do not work or are too expensive. Others may not want to go through the physical stress of childbirth. Still, others want to bring light to this world and open their hearts to children who have no one else.

We want to support families who are choosing adoption to make the world a better place for adoptive children and their new families.

How common is adoption in the United States?

Roughly 135,000 adoptions take place in the United States each year. Out of every ten Americans, six have had personal experience with adoption, meaning either they or someone close to them placed a child up for adoption or was an adoptee.

Adoption is a practice that has touched millions of people’s lives—and the Associates Home Loan adoption grant is here to help even more.

How much does adoption cost?

Adoption fees vary greatly depending on the adoptee’s age and country of origin. The cost of adopting a child can range from $5,000 to $40,000. Adopting through the foster system tends to be the least expensive form of adoption, with private adoptions and international adoptions costing significantly more.

Many families feel put off by the cost of adoption, but there are ways to make the process more affordable. In addition to your own savings fund, many charities are available to help families pay adoption fees. Grants like ours also alleviate a small subset of this financial burden. Your adoption agency may be able to give you a better estimate of what the final expense for you will be.

What is a home study?

A home study is a requirement of adoption in all 50 states. It is one of the latest aspects of the process occurring after training classes and the initial application.

During a home study, an adoption professional will interview you and ask you for certain legal documents and paperwork. This is to ensure that a child placed in your home will be part of a loving, supportive, and safe environment. The adoption professional may come to inspect your home and talk to you in person.

After your home study, you should receive a written report that details the following:

  • Background checks and references
  • Social life and relationships
  • Employment and education
  • Experiences related to parenting
  • Neighborhood and home
  • Reasons for adopting a child

The final report will also make recommendations about which children may be best suited for placement in the family. Click here to read more about preparing for a home study.

We may release the winners’ first names and essays. These materials are solely to help future applicants put names and faces to our community of adoptive families. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.
